Once larger hazards have been resolved, Dave may consider stable, already-down material in open areas. Suitable work can include reopening a private trail, cutting downed logs to useful lengths, stacking wood neatly, or arranging woody material elsewhere on the property.
Do not assume storm-damaged wood is safe because it is on the ground. Twisted branches and compressed logs can hold force. Dave reviews each site before accepting ground-based woodlot or trail work.
